Bronze Period Material from the Recent Excavations in Samshvilde
Abstract
The latest excavations at Samshvilde have uncovered Middle and Late Bronze Age materials, primarily in the form of pottery. Most of this material was found within the inner fortress. The discovery of this type of pottery is particularly significant, as it confirms the existence of earlier settlements on the Samshvilde promontory prior to the construction of the citadel. Since the recovered pottery does not originate from undisturbed layers, it is currently difficult to reconstruct a precise stratigraphic picture.
