Glass Artifacts from Samshvilde

Authors

Abstract

Based on archaeological materials discovered in Georgia, glass artifacts appear continuously from the 3rd millennium BCE up to the 14th century CE, both in burial inventories and in the cultural layers of settlements and fortified sites.

The question of where glass was first invented remains debated among scholars. Some attribute this invention to the Phoenicians, others to the Egyptians, while another hypothesis suggests that glassmaking may have emerged independently at different times and among different peoples.
