Deer Antler as an Agricultural Tool (The Example of Arukhlo I)

Authors

Abstract

The paper discusses 6th century BCE settlements in the South Caucasus, characterized by round buildings made of fired bricks, which were unusual for the period dominated by rectangular houses. Archaeological excavations conducted between 2005 and 2016 revealed various artifacts, including a diverse set of agricultural tools made from reindeer antlers. Four main types were identified: digging tool, chisel, ploughshare, and yoke. Of particular interest is a phallic-shaped ritual implement, representing a significant scientific discovery.
