Journal Archaeology – Peer Review Guidelines
The journal Archaeology is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity and scholarly quality. To achieve this, the journal employs a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential, ensuring unbiased evaluations. Below is an outline of the peer review process for reviewers, conducted via the journal’s online platform.
Logging into the System
Registration / Login:
To access the system, users must complete the registration process using the “Register” option in the menu.
During registration, the following information must be provided:

Your full name

The name of the organization or institution you represent
If you forget your username or password, they can be recovered using your registered email address.
After logging in, manuscripts assigned for review will appear on the “Active Submissions” page. To access the evaluation page, click on the manuscript title.
Peer Review Steps
Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts according to the following criteria:

Originality: Does the manuscript provide new knowledge or insights?

Methodology: Are the research methods and design appropriate and scientifically sound?

Significance: What is the contribution of the manuscript to the advancement of the field?

Clarity: Is the manuscript clearly and professionally written
1. Notifying the Editor and Activating the Review Process
To begin the review and activate the subsequent steps, click “I will evaluate”.
If you do not wish to review the manuscript, click “I will not evaluate”; an automatic notification will be sent to the editor.
2. Preparing the Review
Using the Review Form:
If you agreed to conduct the review, fill out the provided form with your comments and recommendations, then save it.
Alternative Format:
If you prefer to submit your review in another format (e.g., MS Word), you may upload the file using the “Send File” option.
3. Submitting the Review to the Editor
To submit your final review, either complete the form in step three or upload a file containing your comments and recommendations in step four. Once one of these options is used, step five will be activated.

Select the appropriate recommendation in the Recommendation box.

Click “Submit Review to Editor”.
You will receive a confirmation message:
“You cannot make any amendments after saving your evaluation. Do you want to continue?”
Upon confirmation, an email window will open, allowing you to notify the editor of your evaluation results. Once submitted, the review report will be displayed on your screen.
4. Confidentiality
It is essential to maintain full confidentiality throughout the review process. The identities of both authors and reviewers are kept anonymous to ensure impartial evaluation.
5. Post-Review
If the author submits a revised version, you may be asked to review it again. In such cases, ensure that all your previous comments and recommendations have been adequately addressed.
Once the editorial board approves manuscripts based on reviewers’ reports, they are ready for publication. Articles are published in the order they are accepted and in appropriate quantities.
