Archaeological excavations in Samshvilde in 2017
Abstract
In 2017, the Archaeological Expedition of Samshvilde, organized by the University of Georgia, conducted fieldwork at two sites: the Samshvilde Citadel and the area near the Sioni Church. Alongside the archaeological excavations, palynological, archaeobotanical, and anthropological studies were also carried out, which are fundamentally necessary for a comprehensive study of the site. The work was coordinated with the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia and carried out based on Archaeological Work Permit No. 6/09/12/155.
