Recently Discovered Late Bronze Period Burial from Samshvilde Citadel
Abstract
During archaeological work carried out in 2018 at the Samshvilde Citadel, the Samshvilde Archaeological Expedition of the University of Georgia discovered a Late Bronze Age burial. It is noteworthy that the interdisciplinary project, jointly conducted by the University of Georgia and the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia at the site, aims at both the scientific study of the Samshvilde settlement and the development of its tourist infrastructure. Against this background, the scientific significance of this discovery is further enhanced.
It should also be emphasized that, as a result of this collaborative effort, new archaeological realities and artifacts have been uncovered, and several issues regarding periodization and chronology have been clarified. Based on the Samshvilde archaeological materials, four qualification theses are preserved at the University of Georgia, and around 20 scientific articles have been published.
