Silver Coins of Queen Rusudan from Samshvilde(Discovery of 2019)
Abstract
The article discusses grave No. 4, discovered on July 24, 2019, near the Sioni Cathedral in the Samshvilde settlement. Despite damage from later archaeological contexts, the recovered materials allow the determination of the grave’s chronology and social character. Findings include a partially damaged skeleton, a heavily corroded iron ring, pottery fragments, and ten silver coins of Queen Rusudan. This publication represents the first presentation of these materials, introduces significant numismatic evidence, and provides an additional source for the study of Samshvilde and Georgian history.
